Down in the dirt…

Sol 113, and a chance to make an animation of the floor of one of the trenches, showing frost vanishing as the Sun gets higher in Phoenix’s sky… This animation (click on the image to see it moving) flips between two images, the first taken at around 06.30 local time and the second at 07.10ish, and you can clearly see how frost has gone from the trench floor during that time. You can also see the results of some new digging activity at the end of the trench, too…

And then, later in the day, Phoenix looked at the same area again… you can see that the digging operations continued in this trench, and that some of the early morning frost was still there too (probably cos it’s protected by the shadows of the trench wall and the lander’s solar panels)…
