Poor “Snow Queen” is falling apart…

Soon after landing Phoenix found a great big knobbly plate of ice right beneath her. Nicknamed “Snow Queen” this feature is now, after being exposed to the martian air and daily changes in temperature, starting to crack up. This animation uses two frames – one taken on Sol 44 and another on Sol 73 – to show the changes. And quite dramatic they are too, with cracks and fissures opening up, and sections of the ice beginning to flake away…
