Image test

Hmmm… let’s see… can I add an image easily..?

Wow! That was painless! Really like this WordPress software! I can see this is going to be fun…!

Anyway, what is that? That is an image of one of the trenches Phoenix is digging on Mars. As with the image up there in the header it started off as three separate black and white grey scale images, which I then put into Paint Shop, combined, colourised – and a lovely, real(ish) colour image came out the other end! What’s with the “oil on water” effect? Well, in the time taken between each of the three original shots being taken the Sun moved ever-so-slightly across the sky above Phoenix, so there’s some misalignment of the colours. Actually, that’s a really bad explanation, sorry. Here’s a better one…

Changing sun angle between the shots, so the shadows move. So a given pixel might be in direct sunlight when, say, the blue filter is used, but in shadow for the red and green filters, so it comes out blue–or any combination of above. The further away the object casting the shadow is, the greater the effect.”jmknapp (unmannedspaceflight.com member)

Anyway, as I said, that’s just an unashamedly pretty picture.
